Teen Soccer Player Dies after Medical Incident at Princeton High School
The 16-year-old who was taken to a hospital Thursday following an apparent medical incident at Princeton High School has been identified.
Ethan Trejo was identified as the teen who collapsed during soccer conditioning on Thursday, according to the Butler County Coroner.
Sharonville fire and police crews responded to Princeton High School around 8:20 p.m. Thursday, according to Sharonville police.
First responders received a medical run for a student, a “non-breather/cardiac arrest,” at the school’s athletic field off Viking Way and Chester Road, per a Hamilton County emergency communications dispatch report.
Trejo was experiencing a seizure, according to his aunt, Jazmin Bernal.
“All we know is that he was at practice,” Bernal said. “It was around 8 p.m. and he had a seizure.”
The athletic trainer administered AED and CPR until the ambulance arrived, the school said.
Trejo was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s Liberty Township campus, according to the dispatch report.
A man, who says he is Trejo’s dad, said he was working out of town Thursday night when got a devastating call.
“They called me and told me he was at the hospital and I just left,” said Jovani.
Then, about an hour later, another call came through. A call that no father wants to get it.
“Got a phone call. He’s dead,” said Jovani.
rejo died around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Princeton City School District’s Director of Communications Tricia Roddy said.
The 16-year-old’s cause of death is still pending, the coroner’s report says.
Trejo’s family says he suffered a seizure while playing soccer last year as well. The family thinks it caused by dehydration.
