Michael Montgomery Story
At an early age, Michael was able to take advantage of the rare opportunities and experiences that existed as a result of growing up in a pro-athletic family environment. His mother, "Rosie Walker" is an Olympian, 2001 Inductee of WBL Hall Of Fame and one of the all time legends of the Women's basketball association. Michael was born with an obsession for sports, especially football, but unfortunately was also born with a rare heart disease called "Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome (WPW)”. Michael was on his way to a great athletic future, setting his sights on nothing less than a career in the NFL when, during a football practice at Texas A&M, Michael's "WPW" symptoms occurred and almost took his life. Thank God for the alert medical staff at A&M for identifying the condition's symptoms and immediately rushing him to a hospital where he underwent a much needed heart surgery. After a successful procedure, Michael was able to return to the team and lead the "Fighting Aggies" to a winning season, was voted team captain, awarded 1st Team All-Big 12 honors, presented the Aggie Heart award by Governor Rick Perry, and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Michael was truly a heartbeat away from destiny. After retiring from a successful athletic career Michael has continued to dedicate countless hours towards charity & community service as well as breaking ground to develop a foundation to promote awareness of heart disease, support for individuals & aspiring youth athletes with a heart condition, as well as facilitating access to heart screenings for communities across the country.
